For this project I was asked to design business branding for a clients hair salon.  because she works
primarily with elders and close friends she didn't have much in the way for branding until this point.
The main inspiration for the direction of Rita's branding is the new wave of appreciation for the vintage,
I wanted to give her brand the modern vintage feel and since she is a down home rustic type salon out of
her own home I thought the vintage feeling fit perfectly with her salon.
ABOUT THE CLIENT:
Rita Johnson has been a hair stylist for almost 50 years.  At a very young age Rita moved out of her family home and enrolled in beauty school, which at the time was free for minors.  She began her journey to her passion.  After completely beauty school she opened her own salon with a peer and began her long career in the industry.  Unfortunately the 1970s weren't the most kind times for young women entrepenuers and due to a financial error caused by her business partner Rita lost her salon.   Although tragic she never gave up and shortly after earned a stall at a local salon and barber shop.  She worked there for years and even started a family while working there.  Eventually the owner of the salon could no longer afford to keep it afloat, Rita saw her opportunity and became the Cutting Edge's new owner.  After a while she too fell victim to the money vacuum that the building and business was and sought out a new position with another salon.
Now in her 60s she no longer works at any big salon and runs her own operation out of her home.  Finally slowing down to live a more comfortable life after some serious health problems, Rita still does what she loves for work, but also makes time for what's most important her family.
